Research at IBCCF

    The Institute of Biophysics, since its founding contributor to the scientific and training of doctors in the country. The recognition of this contribution by society and official funding bodies, in turn, reverses not only in the form of national and international prestige, but also physically by incorporating equity financing obtained through outstanding research activities developed by their teachers.
    Innovative lines of research have been deployed in IBCCF such as nanotechnology, bioinformatics, bioengineering, biotechnology and cellular and gene therapies, expanding the range of human resource training Program, to include these new technologies in the design of theses and dissertations. The program has maintained a policy of support for young teachers who develop relevant research, to begin their orientation in PG activity; initially guiding master students in co-supervision with senior researchers who develop projects related or complementary. Identifying the potential in these young teachers for teaching, research, guidance, and scientific independence and ability to attract resources, the collegiate Program promotes the guiding framework.

   

 

    Programs Postgraduate have as main objective the training of highly qualified professionals who can work in the scientific community as teachers / researchers and independent creatives. Students who have obtained or differentiated solid conceptual base for Scientific Initiation stages are directly promoted to the doctorate. Those who still need continuing education, to be selected are forwarded to the Masters Course.
     The scientific output of the Institute of Biophysics at UFRJ is intense and diverse, due to the high qualification of its researchers and the variety of lines of ongoing research. Teachers and students of the institution performing regularly publish scientific papers in indexed journals with international circulation, reaching high-impact vehicles, such as the journals Nature, EMBO Journal, Journal of Experimental Medicine, PNAS, Journal of Neuroscience, FASEB Journal, Journal of Immunology, Immunology Today, Cell Death and Differentiation, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Journal of Clinical Investigation, and generally the journals of greatest significance for each specific area of ​​research published internationally. It is also relevant to output published in major refereed journals edited in the country, such as the Brazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, and the contribution to science communication vehicles, such as the Science Today magazine, published by the Brazilian Society for the Progress Science.

 

    The research groups dedicated to research in diverse areas and therefore the squad equipment is varied. The IBCCF houses several rooms equipped for cell and tissue culture, cell lines and handling of pathogenic microorganisms. Conventional equipment for biochemistry and molecular biology are available as well as equipment for processing histological, cytological and cytochemical study of cells and tissues. Small animal houses to serve the animal experimental research groups, harboring rodents, marsupials and primates. A vivarium to transgenic animals is available in combination with other units of the UFRJ.
    The IBCCF account, too, with twisted pair network computing, and logic-art, newly installed, and houses a "cluster" of microprocessors for high-speed computing and mass data, linked to the National Laboratory for Scientific Computing, Ministry Science and Technology, located in Petropolis, State of Rio de Janeiro.
    In this atmosphere conducive to development articulated scientific research, the Institute of Biophysics Carlos Chagas Filho (IBCCF) combines knowledge generation with their educational goals. Has outstanding participation, both qualitatively and quantitatively, in scientific, teaching undergraduate and graduate, and recently the university extension at UFRJ. It is recognized nationally and internationally as a leading biomedical research centers in Latin America, one of the most prolific scientific research irradiator at UFRJ own and produce graduates who now hold prominent positions in various universities in Brazil and abroad.
